Small footprint

For obvious reasons a small footprint is a necessary aspect of building green houses (in fact, ‘LEED for Homes’ applies a base credit solely considering a house’s square footage). For such reasons, our designs make the most of open spaces and the direct communication between interiors and exteriors.

Water conservation is energy conservation

Casa-i has an integrated water harvesting system that collects rainwater for consumption. Likewise, it has a grey-water system that recycles lightly used water for non-potable uses (toilets and irrigation).  The house is also equipped with dual flush toilets, low flow showerheads and on-demand water heaters.

As an additional service, we offer design services for grey-water site irrigation and/or ‘xeriscaping’ (landscapes that requires minimal water maintenance).

Design for the Tropics

Designing green needs to go hand in hand with the understanding of the environment. We think that the first step to assure an energy efficient house is through its layout, filling every space with natural light and cross-ventilation. By doing this, the relationship between interiors and exteriors is direct and uninterrupted.

Likewise, our houses are hurricane and termite proof. As an add-on (or as part of the ‘Premium package’, we offer a custom plasma-cut ironwork that offers security, allows ventilation, and acts as a movable sun-breaker (‘brise-soleil’) whiles it doubles as a hurricane shutter.

Sustainable Design Principles

Concrete modular

We are the word’s only pre-designed house company with a sustainable modular concrete system. Our modules are made of Glass fiber Reinforced Concrete (GfRC). These panels are strong yet light, waterproof, and have beautiful exposed finishes. Each panel is double layered, guaranteeing maximum ‘R’ value (a heat insulation factor) and excellent soundproofing. The structure of the system runs between panels for optimum general structural strength and waterproofing between joints.

Simplified Process

We believe that considering every aspect of the manufacture and construction process is a fundamental aspect of being green. Construction waste is one of the worst sources of landfill pollution. On the other hand, edifice processes are usually one of the main causes of delays in construction time, and time management is crucial for maintaining control over overall prices.  Prefabrication design and technologies allow us to cut waste, time and budget. This is why we are rethinking the way homes are designed and built, to offer efficiencies to the homeowners and developers.

Other considerations

  1. Modular construction achieves up to 70% less waste than regular construction and less impact on building site.

  2. GfRC construction exceeds structural requirements, creating a stronger hurricane proof home.

  3. Modular construction is faster and more predictable in time schedule and cost estimation.

  4. Each home is LEED certifiable.
